Today’s leaf, the Disney Planet Challenge, carries with it very little of the wonder and whimsy that we’ve come to expect from a Disney project. But it’s a leaf logo nonetheless.
The Disney Planet Challenge seeks to educate and inspire students across the country on the importance of conservation. The competition asks classrooms all over the country to plan their own unique conservation projects. Each classroom submits a portfolio detailing the project plans, goals and results (my favorite portfolio: “Saving Our Burrowing Owls and Raptors”). The submissions are judged and prizes are awarded.
A lot of prizes, by the way. In fact, every participating student gets some sort of prize. However the real goodies go to Grand Prize winner. That class will walk away with a $20,000 grant, a special Disney Channel school concert and, maybe best of all, have themselves illustrated in a 2011 edition of Marvel Comics. Not bad. And if you’re the teacher, you’ll also be pleased with the $7,500 teacher gift.
I can’t remember doing anything like this when I was in elementary/middle school. Unless you count digging for worms at recess.
