Mighty Good Planet You Got There

Oh, it's a dandy. We've got Sequoias older than Methuselah, dolphins that call each other by name, the smell of cookies baking after school, soft puppies, the Moonlight Sonata and Voodoo Doughnuts. But when it comes to the good life on Earth, that's pretty much where the agreement ends.

If there are as many opinions on our place in the environment as stars in the sky, well, here's the telescope.

Time to sort through the massive, mainstream conversation on sustainability. But we're not here just to talk technology, policy or marketing. We're here to talk about how people talk about it. And that ought to keep us busy.

If it's worth taking a moment to decode that conversation, then get in here! Of course we've got our Twitter, our YouTube and our Facebook on. Don't be shy. Throw in with us. Your POV is why we're here.

Leaf of the Day, No. 82, New Leaf Paper

New Leaf Paper fits in nicely with our series of “Leaf Mash-Up” logos, which we’ve been rattling off for the last couple of weeks. New Leaf mashes a leaf with a piece of paper. Seems logical, after all the company does have the word “leaf” in the name and actually makes and sells paper products.

Leaf of the Day, No. 78, Village Green

Village Green plays an interesting game of “keep away” in the energy sector to encourage the use of renewable energy. They do it in two ways: buying Renewable Energy Certificates and buying Carbon Offsets. Essentially, Village Green buys RECs and Carbon Offsets, swiping them out from under energy companies and utilities who are required to

Leaf of the Day, No. 77, Urban Forest Map

Tree Map Introduction from Kiran Goldman on Vimeo. The Urban Forest Map initiative seeks to document every tree in San Fransisco to study the environmental impact of urban greenery. My favorite line is, “It’s like a census for trees.” What better way to incorporate trees into everyday life than to treat them like American citizens,
